Gloucester Gate Streets to Get Fresh Look with Pressure Washing Programme

Gloucester City Council, in partnership with Gloucester BID, is giving Gloucester city centre a fresh new look with a programme of pressure washing across the city's iconic Gate Streets.

From 10 August, Ubico teams will spend each morning cleaning the pedestrianised sections of Eastgate Street, Northgate Street, Southgate Street and Westgate Street, helping to keep the city centre looking its best for residents, businesses and visitors.

The enhanced cleaning programme comes after a prolonged spell of dry weather. With less rainfall than usual to naturally wash away dirt and debris, combined with an increase in the local gull population, the city centre's streets have required additional attention to maintain their appearance.

The partnership between Gloucester City Council and Gloucester BID reflects a shared commitment to creating a clean, welcoming and attractive environment in the heart of the city.

Residents, businesses and visitors are thanked for their patience while the works are carried out.

Councillor Rebecca Trimnell, whose ward covers the whole city centre, said:Β

I am delighted that we have come together to develop a pressure-washing programme for the city centre to address the current state of the pavements.Β Β

None of us want to see grubby streets, which has been aggravated by this long period of dry weather and lack of rain.Β Β

I am grateful for Gloucester Bid's input and also Ubico who will be undertaking this work over the coming weeks. I am looking forward to seeing the result, and cleanliness restored across our historic city. I am confident once completed it'll make such a positive difference to businesses, residents, and visitors alike. This deep clean will also help to keep on top of street cleaning throughout the year.

Councillor Howard Hyman, whose ward covers the whole city centre, said:

I have had numerous concerns concerning the state of the streets and pavements. This is no reflection on the contractor, Ubico do a very good job on a daily basis but it was apparent to me that a pressure wash was needed in the gate streets. I am pleased there is now a schedule for this.

Emily Gibbon, BID Manager at Gloucester Bid said:

After hearing businesses' concerns about the cleanliness of the city centre, I was pleased to meet with Gloucester City Council and Ubico to discuss the issues directly. This resulted in a joint walkabout to identify key areas of concern and a trial of a new morning cleansing programme using a pressure washer.

We hope this trial will lead to the pressure washer becoming a regular feature of the city centre's weekday morning cleansing routine. This collaborative approach demonstrates what can be achieved when partners work together to respond to business feedback, and we're pleased to see practical action being taken to help create a cleaner, more welcoming city centre for businesses, residents and visitors alike.

Ubico will continue the cleaning programme until each Gate street is fully pressure washed.
