Thornbury Day Nursery and Pre-School has received positive recognition from Ofsted for providing a nurturing environment where staff prioritise children's wellbeing throughout the day.
The recent inspection report states that staff build warm and trusting relationships with children, helping them feel safe, confident, and ready to explore.
Located in a former school building, Thornbury serves families in Thornbury, Morton, Alveston, and nearby areas of South Gloucestershire, offering high-quality early years care and education.
Ofsted's updated grading framework for early years settings assesses safeguarding alongside six key areas: inclusion; curriculum and teaching; achievement; behaviour, attitudes and routines; children's welfare and wellbeing; and leadership and governance.
Partou Thornbury met safeguarding standards and achieved the expected standard in all six evaluation areas, demonstrating consistent delivery of high-quality childcare and education.
The inspector noted that children enjoy their time at the nursery and settle quickly into familiar routines. They receive a warm welcome from staff who know them well and help them feel secure from the moment they arrive.
Children show confidence in exploring activities and form positive relationships with staff and peers. They play cooperatively, share resources, and learn to take turns, supported by staff who model calm and respectful interactions.
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well included, with staff adapting activities so all children can participate alongside their peers.
The report highlights that children feel safe and cared for, moving smoothly between indoor and outdoor areas supported by understood routines. They show positive attitudes to learning and respond well to staff guidance, with staff providing reassurance and help in managing emotions when needed.
Families at Thornbury Day Nursery and Pre-School are described as welcomed and valued. Parents report the nursery as friendly and supportive, with strong communication between home and nursery helping children feel a sense of belonging.
The setting includes separate nursery and pre-school buildings, each with spacious playrooms and extensive educational resources tailored to support development at every age. The nursery also features an adventure-filled outdoor garden and a soft-play area to support physical development.
